  1. Adam,
Is it okay if we still do a face to face interaction? We could meet in BC some day next week. Let me know. Sorry about not being able to do the chat and posting. I waited a couple of days to hear from you, then had to make a decision after someone else contacted me. Sorry:(

  4. Chuck,

We should probably coordinate our schedules so we can work on our challenge problems. I have parent-teacher conferences tomorrow until 8, so I'm free Thursday after 5 and Friday afternoon...and I'm sure I can find more pockets of time. It's hard to think straight after teaching all day and 5 hours of conferences!

    Talk to you soon,
    Erica

  6. Adam,
I will be finished with the asynchronous chat on Monday evening, so how about Wednesday (11/18) after school. TBA for time and place as it gets closer. How's your project going?

    Chuck and Erica,
For that matter, how is EVERYONE'S project coming along? I completed the tower of pencils last night with my partner. I have to say, it was kind of frustrating because you couldn't communicate while you were building, so there were long pauses between each communication. I didn't really feel like we were that connected. We bounced some intial ideas off one another and I ended up (about a half hour in) trying his base design. I didn't like not using my own idea, even though I know that's what partnerships are all about. Plus, my partners' tower was twice as big as mine. His was like 5'8". Let me know...

  7. Erica,

Sorry I didn't get back to you until now. I also had parent teacher conferences, etc...

What order are we supposed to do these activities? Do we do them as listed? Synchronous, Asynchronous, then Face-to-Face?

If this is the case, do you want to set up our "synchronous" for tomorrow (Sunday) sometime? I coach basketball and start this week, so next weekend may be the best time to meet face to face.

Let me know. If you want, you can e-mail me at commeret@gmail.com.

Patrick, thanks for sharing your synchronous experience. Based on what you said, I was thinking about using Skype...if you're up for it, Erica?

    Thanks.

  8. Chuck,

No apologies necessary...it was a long and tiresome week in general.

I have houseguests until tomorrow early afternoon-ish (GR Wine and Food Festival :)). How about we do our synchronous chat tomorrow late afternoon--4:00 sound ok? I'm actually not familiar with skype. Is there a chat function in ANGEL that we can use?

    Enjoy your day,
    Erica

  9. Hey Guys,
As I see you guys are preparing for your synchronous chat, I have a few suggestions. Try to use thicker rubber bands. I am using skinny standard issue school bands and they suck. They are also causing me trouble in the asynchronous chat of the catapult. Also, my partner had some tremendous luck (not really luck) with a triangular support connected and braced by two pencils in the shape of a cross on the ground.
My partner and I have been working on the catapult and I have to say that working over the course of four days is much more convenient than the synchronous chat. Not having a time limit, or the requirement to communicate at a given time is much more ideal. I don't feel rushed, I can post when I want, or when I'm done, and have sufficient time to work on it, plus it's on my watch. I'm about half done with the design and am working to build the launch arm and attach it. Happy building!

  10. Erica,
    4:00 it is!
Skype is a synchronous program that allows you to "see" the other person (webcam needed). This is a free download if you are interested... Otherwise, do you have a gmail account? We could have a conversation in google chat. I am not familiar with Angel chat, but I could figure it out.
You make the call. I'm flexible! :)
    Thanks.

  11. Erica,

For starters, let's use Angel Instant Messaging (bubble on the side of Angel). If we choose to use another avenue, we can decide then.

    I'm still planning on 4.

    See you then.

  12. Chuck,

I created a Google account for this class, so let's use Google chat. I haven't used it before, but I'm sure it's pretty user friendly. Do I need to download Google Talk? Let me give you my phone number just in case: 616.634.7283.

  14. Hey Adam,
Just wondering if you're checking this periodically. Are we still on for Wednesday after school? We could meet at a school site, or at a house in either BC or Kzoo. Doesn't matter. Maybe 5pm "ish". Let me know soon so we can organize the materials.

  15. Jeff,

I have been a little preoccupied with hunting season the last three weeks. This time of the year I tend to be a little spacey. 5pm sounds good. I am planning on stopping by my parents in bangor so we can meet in Kzoo. You pick the location. I am free anytime after 12ish so if you need to get it done earlier, no problem. I have bascially everything we need. Just post the location tonight.

  16. Adam,
How about my place in Portage? 5pm at 7315 Quail St. Portage MI 49024. If you know where Best Buy is on Westnedge, it's past there. Go to a street called Schuring, turn right and make an immediate right on Quail. I am at the end of the cul-de-sac. Call me with questions at 269-209-5548. Do you have a video camera? I have a small one on my digital, but not a full camera. If you do...bring it and anything else. I will also have some supplies. Let me know if there's a problem.
